Cost modeling for the Building Decarbonization Calculator is suported by both industry-wide and SE specific data. The cost model is regionalized and available in many currencies.
Cost of implementing Ecostruxure is based on a hypothetical bill of quantities and software costs. The core cost model parallels that in the SRI/EPC Estimator. To estimate the total cost of implementing Ecostruxure, the building was segmented into four key areas:
The presence or absence of equipment is determined based on the declared Ecostruxure Modules. The investment cost is determined from this bill of quantities (including the cost of necessary software).
SE offers beyond Ecostruxure are based on the geographically-specific of data from SE's database of project costs, collected from across the organization.
Generic building upgrades are based on the same building prototypes as the baseline energy model, using data from RSMeans. These estimates were performed by a cost estimator internal to SE.
Annual energy costs are based on country-level data as of 2023. We assume no year-over-year cost escalation and perform no discounting to determine net present value. Both may be available in a future version. If you would like to request these features, reach out.

The Building Decarbonization Calculator does all internal calculations in Euros, converting to other currencies at standard rates established at the beginning of 2024.
Cost calculations are regionalized using data from RSMeans. These data are used to increase or decrease the base cost calculations in the tool using a region-specific percentage factor. For regions beyond the United States, RSMeans is used to develope proxy regionalization factors informed by the development team's professional judgement.
